
September 7, 2011 - Jubilee To Insure All 18,000 Runners At Standard Chartered MarathonRegion’s largest insurer gives Sh80million worth of sponsorship to the event NAIROBI, October 25 – East Africa’s leading insurance company, Jubilee Insurance is, for the fourth year running, the official insurer of this year’s Standard Chartered Nairobi marathon. The company has confirmed it will insure all the 18,000 marathon runners, from over 20 countries, participating in the event. Jubilee is giving Sh80 million worth of sponsorship, that will go towards Group Personal Accident Covers for the runners, volunteers and officials, of all ages. In addition, the company will also cover all equipment in use during the marathon. “Jubilee is proud to be part of this event, the proceeds from which go towards supporting a very noble cause, medical care for the needy children,” said Jubilee Insurance Kenya CEO, Patrick Tumbo. “As the largest insurance company in East Africa, and number one medical insurer, Jubilee is committed to the medical needs of the society and therefore this is a cause we are keen to support.” Mr Tumbo said the marathon has over the years grown in stature, subsequently increasing support of cataract, glaucoma and other trauma related surgeries for underprivileged children in various parts of the country. He said Jubilee’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) investment is a long term commitment aimed at improving the well being of communities in which it operates. The Jubilee Group has subsidiary Companies in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Burundi and Mauritius. Jubilee will also have a corporate team of staff members participating in the 21km run and a stand showcasing its newest products, across all its business lines. The Group Personal Accident cover will offer full protection to all the individuals attending the marathon, for any eventualities. The sponsorship also includes an all-risks cover worth Sh26 million for general equipment, which insures all the equipment used during the marathon, from branding and signage materials to race administration equipment, including paraphernalia provided by other event sponsors. A public liability cover worth KShs12 million is also provided, indemnifying Standard Chartered against loss or damage incurred in the course of the event. This year, Jubilee also extended insurance to a Torch Tour, which saw Standard Chartered Bank staff run from Nairobi to Mombasa to mark launch of the marathon. “Insurance is an important component of everyday life; and the most important aspect of insurance is that it provides peace of mind to policy holders.
